The urban studies first-year seminar has been part of the partnership between the Historical Society of Pennsylvania and Penn’s Kislak Center.
In fall 2023 and fall 2024, students visited HSP and had the chance to investigate some of the 22 million primary source documents and items at HSP. Access Services Librarian Aileen Murphy briefly described the materials she set out in one of the many HSP vaults.
Highlights among the materials she had on display include The Philadelphia 1908 Colored Business Directory, Albert Dutrieuille Catering records, and the 1842 Colored Census, part of the Leon Gardiner Collection of ANHS records.
